IR Break Beam Sensor – Infrared Motion Detector Module (50cm)

Infrared break-beam sensors are a simple, reliable way to detect motion. This pair works up to 50cm with a fast, stable response time of less than 2ms. At just 20x10x9mm, the module fits easily into narrow spaces, and it operates across a wide temperature range of -25°C to 60°C.

Power the sensor with a DC voltage of 3.0 to 5V. It pairs well with Arduino for motion detection, speed detection, and timing applications, including smart robot competitions.

The sensor works with an emitter that sends out a beam of human-invisible IR light and a receiver positioned across from it that picks up that same light. When an opaque object passes between the two, the beam is broken. The output (white wire) matches the receiver's supply voltage whenever it has a clear line of sight to the emitter. When the beam is interrupted, the output drops to zero volts.
