Seeed Studio CAN Bus Breakout Board is an expansion board that adds CAN Bus communication to any XIAO development board. It pairs the MCP2515 CAN controller with the SN65HVD230 transceiver, giving you reliable, ready-made CAN Bus hardware without wiring up the chips yourself.
What Is CAN Bus?
CAN, or Controller Area Network, allows microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other without a host computer, commonly used for control and data acquisition in vehicles. Each node on the bus has an ID, with higher-priority IDs allowed to transmit first while others listen, so two nodes never talk at once. This arbitration means you can simply connect components to the bus without worrying about signal routing.
Efficient, Reliable Communication
The onboard MCP2515 controller handles CAN Bus communication, while the SN65HVD230 transceiver takes care of accurate signal conversion, giving you a robust interface for CAN-based projects. CANH and CANL lines are accessible through a convenient terminal connection for easy wiring into an existing bus.
Seamless XIAO Compatibility
The board is designed to work directly with the Seeed Studio XIAO development board range, letting you bring CAN Bus capability into the same compact ecosystem you're already using. It's a good fit for automotive applications, industrial control systems, robotics projects, and IoT devices that need CAN Bus connectivity in a small footprint.
Note that this board isn't directly compatible with the XIAO nRF54L15 series, since Arduino isn't currently supported on that board. The hardware interface itself is fully compatible, so developers can manually adapt the software if needed, and official software support from Seeed Studio is in development.
