LEDs are some of the most essential components in any maker’s toolkit. From simple Blink sketches to more complex circuits, this 500-piece kit equips your workspace with the most commonly used 5mm through-hole LEDs. Inside, you’ll find 100 LEDs of each colour: red, green, yellow, blue and white – all with a diffused lens for even, soft light distribution.
5mm through-hole LEDs are widely used in prototyping and DIY electronics. These LEDs fit easily into breadboards, can be soldered to veroboard, wired directly to GPIO pins, or panel-mounted as indicator lights in enclosures.
The assortment of five colours gives flexibility for signalling, feedback, lighting effects and more. Each LED operates reliably between 2.5–3V and works best at a current of 16–18mA, with a maximum rating of 20mA.
When using LEDs, it’s important to remember they are polarised components. The shorter leg is the cathode (GND/negative), and a current-limiting resistor should always be used in series to prevent damage. Our Ohm’s Law guide can help with choosing the right resistor for your voltage source.
