The D1 Mini is a compact WiFi development board built around the Espressif ESP8266 in an ESP-12F module. It packs a 32-bit processor, 4MB of flash and 2.4GHz WiFi onto a 34.2 x 25.6mm board, with a Micro-USB port and onboard USB-to-serial converter so you can upload code straight from your computer. It is a popular base for IoT projects such as sensor nodes, smart home devices, displays and data loggers, and it can be programmed from the Arduino IDE, MicroPython or NodeMCU.

Key Features

  • ESP8266 ESP-12F module with 802.11 b/g/n WiFi (2.4GHz)
  • 32-bit Tensilica L106 processor running at 80MHz or 160MHz
  • 4MB SPI flash
  • 11 digital I/O pins with 3.3V logic (PWM supported on all except D0)
  • 1 analog input (A0, 0 to 3.2V)
  • I2C, SPI and UART support
  • Micro-USB port for power, programming and serial debugging
  • Onboard 3.3V regulator, so it runs from 5V over USB or an external supply
  • Reset button and onboard LED
  • Compact 34.2 x 25.6mm footprint, breadboard friendly
  • Compatible with the D1 Mini shield ecosystem

Specifications

  • Module: Espressif ESP8266, ESP-12F
  • Processor: Tensilica L106 32-bit RISC, 80 / 160MHz
  • Memory: 4MB flash, 160KB SRAM (about 80KB available to your application)
  • WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz
  • Digital I/O: 11 pins, 3.3V logic
  • Analog input: 1 pin (A0), 0 to 3.2V
  • Interfaces: I2C, SPI, UART
  • USB: Micro-USB with onboard USB-to-serial converter
  • Power: 5V via USB or the 5V pin, regulated to 3.3V onboard
  • Dimensions: 34.2 x 25.6mm
  • Programming: Arduino IDE, MicroPython, NodeMCU

Important Notes

  • The I/O pins are 3.3V only and are not 5V tolerant. Use a level shifter or voltage divider when connecting 5V signals.
  • The analog input accepts 0 to 3.2V. Do not connect higher voltages directly to A0.
  • D0 does not support PWM. Some pins affect boot behaviour if pulled the wrong way at startup, so check the datasheet before wiring up buttons or pull-ups.
